Auditions at the Green Room Theatre Wilmslow
Auditions for all Green Room productions are open to everyone. You do not need to be a Green Room member to audition. However, if you do audition and are successful, you will be required to join the Green Room as a full member in order to appear in the play. If you accept a part, you will be expected to attend rehearsals for a period of approximately 6 weeks prior to the production. Rehearsals times and dates are at the discretion of the director. They are normally Sunday afternoons and Monday, Wednesday and Thursday or Friday evenings.
The dates of new auditions are announced here, in the Green Room newsletter and by email to all full and social Green Room members.
The plays of our 2026/27 season are shown below. We would love you to come along and find out more about each play over the coming weeks when we will be holding informal social evenings to find out more about each play. Open to everyone, these evenings will be a chance to meet the Director, listen to their thoughts on the play and informally read sections of it. It really doesn’t matter whether you would be interested in getting involved in some way or you’re just curious and would just like to meet up with others, have a drink, listen and find out a bit more. We’d love to see you all there whatever and value your continued support.
Following those evenings, there will be auditions held for those interested. In the meantime, there is a little more information about each of the plays on our website and if you have any questions, we’d love to hear from you at pscc@greenroomwilmslow.org.uk
Here’s a list of the 2026-27 season’s plays
Hangmen by Martin McDonagh, 12 – 17 October 2026. Director: Mike Rogerson. In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what’s the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they’ve abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit. This savagely comic exploration of justice and punishment will have you laughing out loud, simultaneously shocked and delighted. A taut theatrical thriller by the multi award-winning writer of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘In Bruges’ and ‘The Pillowman’.

Hansard by Simon Woods. 25 – 30 January 2027. Director: Duncan Battman. Hansard; noun: The official report of all parliamentary debates. Hansard is an intimate domestic drama about a long and troubled marriage. It is also a comedy about politics and identity and the failings of the ruling class. Set around the passing of the Section 28 legislation in 1988, which banned the “promotion” of homosexuality. It is funny, tender, brutal, and ultimately devastating. Hansard premiered at the National Theatre, London, in August 2019.
Hansard: Social reading evening: Thursday 16th April at 7.30pm; Audition: Tuesday 28th April at 7 pm for 7.30pm;
Electric Rosary By Tim Foley. 15 – 20 March 2027. Director: Helen Bingle. Behind the crumbling walls of St Grace’s Convent, an exhausted order of nuns needs resurrecting. As Easter approaches, Mother Elizabeth has just the thing. Behold ‘Mary’, a council-funded robot. Practical and surprisingly funny, for some a blessing, for others a curse – could she be the revelation they have all been praying for?
Electric Rosary is a sharp, timely and gloriously funny play, asking what faith really means in the age of artificial intelligence and what it is to be human in tomorrow’s world. It was a Judges’ Award winner in the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, and premiered at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, in 2022.
Electric Rosary: Social reading evening: Thursday 16th April at 7.30pm; Audition: Thursday 30th April at 7pm for 7.30pm.
Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas. 17 – 22 May 2027. Director: Clare Lewis. A vivid portrayal of life in the fictional Welsh costal village of Llreggub spanning a day in the life of its residents. Through Thomas’ beautiful poetic language and imagery, each diverse character’s voice comes to life and reveals the essence of the village, celebrating both the mundane and the extraordinary. An amusing and poignant observation of love, beauty, jealousy and human folly.
Under Milk Wood: Social reading evening: tba; Audition: tba;
Backstage Roles required for all productions
The Stage Management Team. This includes Props/Assistant Stage Manager. Run the show backstage, cue cast, co-ordinate with Lighting and Sound, and take overall responsibility during the run of a production. Manage and place props.
Props. Source and store props. There is often overlap with the SM/ASM roles.
The Wardrobe Team. Curate our stock of costumes, altering, repairing and often creating from scratch. Assist with speedy costume changes during the production.
Prompt. An essential support role, particularly during later rehearsals as the cast familiarise themselves with their lines and cues. The role can be shared. Be a reassuring safety net during performance, the ambition is not to have to speak!
Set-building and Decorating. Carpentry skills are an asset, but not essential. We also welcome those who can wield a paintbrush and have the creative skills to turn plywood into convincing props and backdrops. The team generally meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Lighting. Can involve designing, installing and programming lighting to realise the Director’s vision for a play, or simply being available to run the show once the design has been created.
Sound. The operator has the freedom to design and construct the Sound scene according to the Director’s wishes. During production Sound is usually run by one person from an intuitive computer program. Training will, of course, be offered!
Please email the Play & Stage committee (pscc@greenroomwilmslow.org.uk) if you are interested in a part or working backstage in a forthcoming production.
