The Messiah brings the greatest story ever told to the Green Room Theatre, Wilmslow this Christmas!
The Green Room’s centenary season continues with The Messiah by Patrick Barlow, ‘the funniest and most magical Nativity you will ever see!’, as this is no ordinary Christmas comedy! The play runs from Monday 2 to 7 December 2024. To book tickets, visit The Green Room Theatre.
A travelling troupe of two actors and an opera singer movingly and miraculously enact the greatest story ever told. The troupe play a cast of thousands in a comedy that conjures up the sublime, the ridiculous and the truly angelic. The play’s author Patrick Barlow, is a successful writer and performer of comedy theatre, scriptwriting and appearing in many National Theatre of Brent productions. Patrick also wrote the popular comedy stage adaptation of John Buchan’s novel ‘The 39 Steps’, which played to packed houses at the Green Room last season.
Director John Chidgey says, “I was delighted to be asked to direct this play in this, the centenary year for the Green Room and coincidentally the 75th play I have produced here and elsewhere, having joined the Green Room 56 years ago as an actor in “I capture the Castle” in 1968. This play brings the Nativity story to life with three very talented actors playing a myriad of parts including Mary and Joseph, Herod, the Archangel Gabriel and the Three Wise Men. Christmas does indeed start here.”
Please note that this production is not a pantomime and not the famous Oratorio by Handel. In The Green Room’s opinion, the production is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.
