Radio plays on the stage? Yes, it’s an interesting concept. Actors behind a microphone. Full evening wear, ingenious sound effects, and all the buzz of a live studio. Come along to see how this is done.
In 1947 Agatha Christie had risen to the challenge from the BBC to write a radio play for the 80th birthday of one of her most keen admirers – Queen Mary. That play went on to become The Mousetrap, which became the world’s longest running play on stage, ever.
Agatha Christie also wrote 66 detective novels and many short stories, which have sold millions of copies since. Several of those stories have turned up as films, stage plays, TV serials and on radio, still puzzling and entertaining audiences three-quarters of a century later.
